Energy saving trust rubbishes rent a roof solar scheme

The energy saving trust are suggesting that the savings from renting your roof to a solar company only yield £70 per year in savings. The rent a roof schemes are popular amoung investors who cream off the governments feed in tariff as a coupon on their capital outlay i.e. the solar panels.

Recently these schemes have come under fire from poor selling and the limitations that consumers are forced to endure such that they can reap in profit from your roof.

We always advise people of the downsides of these rent a roof schemes, especially the long term tie up. If you are thinking of such a scheme do at least get a proper quote from a reputable installer who will explain to you how much you could save if you were to buy the solar panels. Its about educating yourself as much as possible.
